John von Neumann (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

John von Neumann was a Hungarian-American mathematician, physicist, computer scientist, and polymath.  He made decisive contributions to virtually every area of mathematics outside of topology and number theory, including, but not limited to, Set Theory, Ergodic Theory, Operator Theory, Measure Theory, Geometry, Lattice Theory, the Mathematical Formulation of Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Logic, Game Theory, Mathematical Economics, Linear Programming, Mathematical Statistics, Fluid Dynamics, Cellular Automata and Digital Computing. It goes without saying that John von Neumann was one of the foremost mathematicians of his era; he's said to be the last representative of the "great mathematicians" like Euler, Gauss, Poincare and Hilbert.  He has over 150 published papers to his name, with over 120 of those being in the subject of mathematics, despite dying at the fairly early age of 53.  His general cognitive and mathematical ability was the stuff of legends.  His men...

Ed Wood (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

Edward David Wood Jr ., best known simply as Ed Wood , was an American film director, producer, writer, and actor, as well as the author of plays and many books, mostly novels. He has often been called the “worst director of all time”, having directed the supposedly “worst film ever made”, Plan 9 from Outer Space in 1956. Although he achieved little recognition in his lifetime, he later became a cult figure, a status consolidated by Tim Burton’s 1994 biographical film Ed Wood starring Johnny Depp.  Ed Wood was born in 1924 in New York to middle-class parents. Already in his teens he showed enthusiasm for films and film-making. He served as a marine in WWII in the Pacific, seeing combat several times and being wounded more than once. Discharged as a corporal, he moved to Hollywood in 1947 to start working as a filmmaker. Although able to get work in the mainstream movie and television industry as a writer and director of commercials and very low-budget productions, from the...

Albert Einstein (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

Albert Einstein was a German-born, Nobel Prize winning theoretical physicist, best known for his prolific contributions to science. His early work can best be summarised in his ' Annus Mirabilis'  papers of 1905, where four separate writings in the same year made substantial changes to modern physics and our understanding of space, time and matter. For these 1. He solved a puzzle of the photoelectric effect, i.e. the phenomenon where electrons are emitted when light is shone on an object, by theorising that light existed in discrete quanta, later called 'photons'. 2. He explained the findings of particles appearing to move randomly in liquids, a phenomenon known as 'Brownian Motion', saying that this was due to atoms, too small for the eye to see, colliding with the particles. 3. He was able to reconcile Maxwell's equations on electricity and magnetism with the laws of mechanics by introducing a new theory of ' Special Theory of Relativity ...

Galileo Galilei (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

Galileo Galilei was an Italian philosopher, astronomer, scientist and mathematician; best remembered for his work in support of Copernicus' heliocentric theory of the solar system.  Galileo also observed that the Milky way was in fact made up of millions of individual stars, discovered the phases of Venus and discovered the moons of Jupiter. For the sake of his life, Galileo recanted his views of the validity of the Copernican model in 1633, admitting that the earth did not spin on its own axis. It is unlikely that the recantation was sincere in any sense and nevertheless remained under house arrest. I argue, at least what can be agreed upon by historians who can confirm this biographical information, provide some clues towards what Galileo's type might be. As a young man, Galileo was unsure what to pursue in terms of a long-term career, more specifically having to choose between becoming a Catholic priest or a doctor of medicine. He inevitably chose to study medicine at the...

Leonardo Da Vinci (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

Leonardo da Vinci or simply Leonardo, was an Italian polymath whose vastly diverse interests included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He has been variously called the father of palaeontology, ichnology, and architecture, and is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. But how can Socionics shed light on this "Universal Genius"? In discussions about Leonardo's type, it is often remarked how only a sensory type could achieve the beautiful detail and composition in his art. Given alone, this observation is not sufficient to conclude a type with strong S . This skill or eye for detail is trained by years of dedicated practice in the field. Secondly, a renaissance painter would not have worked alone, but would have had assistants. This was certainly the case with Leonardo. We actually know at least two of his ass...

Stephen Hawking (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

Stephen William Hawking, CH, CBE, FRS, FRSA is the former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and author of 'A Brief History of Time', which was an international bestseller. Stephen Hawking's scientific investigations have shed light on the origins of the cosmos, the nature of time and the ultimate fate of the universe. His bestselling books for the general audience have given an appreciation of physics to millions. Stephen Hawking is regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Albert Einstein ( ILE ). In Stephen Hawking's pursuit of optimizing theoretical cosmology in helping non-scientists understand fundamental questions of physics and our existence, he very frequently presents the reader with theories and alternatives developed over the years by various scientists. Stephen Hawking perceives unlimited potential within each concept, readily adapting and calculating the impending results of alternative considerat...

Bill Maher (ILE): Personality Type Analysis

William "Bill" Maher  is a talk-show host, stand-up comedian, and occasional film-maker. Currently he hosts the talk show 'Real Time with Bill Maher'. Previously he hosted a show similar in format, 'Politically Incorrect'. Maher's preferred format for his shows is somewhat unusual in two ways: first, rather than have one or two guests at a time, he (usually) prefers groups of at least 4 guests. Second, rather than focus essentially on sheer comedy, he leads discussions about serious political, social and cultural topics, cracking jokes based on those to maintain a light-hearted atmosphere. Yet, if the discussion gets heated over a subject he cares about, he tends to let it keep going rather than crack a joke. For his occasional one-to-one interviews (with people like Richard Dawkins ( LSE ), Sam Harris ( LIE ), etc. or major politicians) he prefers to, mostly, stick to issues and keep jokes to a minimum. Maher is extremely self-confident ...

ILE - Intuitive Logical Energiser - "The Inventor"

This is the type profile for the Intuitive Logical Energiser (ILE). To see more type profiles, click here . Albert Einstein 1. Ideas ILEs are best characterised by their rampant curiosity for the latest idea to enter their heads. When they discover something new, they can intuitively grasp its potential to illuminate alternative avenues and open previously uncon sidered windows. Those ideas which are most packed with possibility entice the ILE and can capture their obsessive interest until its po tential has been fully explored. The more complex the idea and the more applicable it is to a variety of different situations, the longer the ILE's attention can be held. However, at some point another, shinier idea presents itself and the ILE will dart after the latest fascination, leaving the debris of numerous projects in their wake. ILEs tend to have a very broad range of different, unusual interests and will casually talk about these areas with others, likely coming across as...
