Henry Kissinger (ILI): Personality Type Analysis

Henry Alfred Kissinger (born Heinz Kissinger in 1923) is a German-American writer, geopolitical analyst, consultant, and former National Security Advisor and Secretary of State to presidents Richard Nixon ( ESI ) and Gerald Ford ( SLI ), having the distinction of being the only person in history to have held both titles at the same time. Kissinger’s reputation is controversial. He is praised by some for his use of realpolitik , an approach to diplomacy that chooses to eschew ideology or morality in favor of pragmatism. He is also praised by many for his achievements, including his pivotal role in pursuing détente with the Soviet Union, opening negotiations with the diplomatically isolated Maoist China, negotiating a ceasefire to the Yom-Kippur war, setting the stage for long-lasting peace between Israel and Egypt (completed during the Carter administration), and negotiating the end of America’s involvement in the Vietnam war. However, Kissinger is also routinely criticized for his ...

Nikola Tesla (LII): Personality Type Analysis

Nikola Tesla was a physicist, inventor, mechanical and electrical engineer popularly known for his intellectual brilliance and achievements in the realm of electrical engineering. His inventions ushered in the beginning of commercial electricity and his revolutionary work in electromagnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries opened previously unconsidered possibilities to electricity's applications. Tesla's patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current (AC) electric power systems, including the poly-phase system of electrical distribution and the AC motor. Tesla demonstrated wireless energy transfer to power electronic devices as early as 1893, and aspired to intercontinental wireless transmission of industrial power in his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project (Tesla Tower) located in Long Island, New York. At the turn of the 20th century, Tesla's fame in the United States exceeded that of any previous inventor or scientist in America...

Alfred the Great (LII): Personality Type Analysis

Alfred the Great was the 27th King of Wessex from 871 to 899, the very first English monarch to have ever been given the epithet "the Great" and most well-known for commanding the successful defense of Wessex during Viking conquest, which eventually lead him to become the dominant monarch of England towards the end of his life. The history of his life and reign as monarch of Wessex is explained in detail through the written accounts of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, historical documentation of what his reign was like, those who personally knew him and the biography The Life of King Alfred, written by the Welsh monk Asser. The details of his early childhood are elaborated on in Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, in which young Alfred (suspected to be around age four) travelled with his family to Rome in 853, to be made "consul" by Pope Leo IV. This was early preparation for his eventual succession as King of Wessex, though the possibility of Alfred becoming the next in line was s...

Angela Merkel (LII): Personality Type Analysis

Angela Dorothea Merkel is a German physicist, research scientist and politician who has been serving as the Chancellor (i.e. equivalent to prime minister) of Germany since 1998. She is not only the first woman in that position, but also the youngest when sworn in, as well as the only one with a background in natural sciences. She was born in 1954 in Hamburg, in what was then West Germany. Soon afterwards her family moved to what was then East Germany so that her father, a Lutheran pastor, could take a position in Perleberg, to the north of Berlin. Therefore, she grew up under East Germany's Soviet-aligned communist regime. Always a very good student - among other things she learned to speak Russian fluently - she studied Physics in the University of Leipzig. Like every young East German who wanted to have a chance of being allowed to go to university, she joined the official youth organisation FDJ (Free German Youth) which led to some minor controversy later, although by all a...

Tiberius (ILI): Personality Type Analysis

Tiberius Claudius Nero , later Tiberius Julius Caesar, best known simply as Tiberius , was the second Roman Emperor, for 23 years, from 14 to 37. His reign is one of the best-documented of all, with many preserved speeches and letters, as well as observations from contemporaries and very detailed information on his personal decisions and preferences, providing material for his typing. His character and personality puzzled and fascinated contemporaries as well as historians, ancient and modern, and he is one of the most studied Roman Emperors. A prestigious Spanish physician, Gregorio Marañón, went as far as to analyse Tiberius’s psychology, in his classic “ Tiberius: a Study in Resentment ”, a book praised by Ronald Syme, the 20 th century’s foremost Roman historian. I argue, therefore, that there is plenty of reliable material with which to deduce his Socionics type. Tiberius belonged by birth to the ancient patrician clan Claudius, one of the most prestigious during the centuri...

Emily Brontë (ILI): Personality Type Analysis

Emily Jane Brontë was an English poet and writer who lived in the first half of the 19 th  century, one of the Brontë sisters, along with Charlotte and Anne. Unlike her sisters, Emily published only one book, ' Wuthering Heights' , before her death at the age of 30; but that one book is now considered one of the greatest works of English literature. Like her sisters and her brother, Branwell, Emily grew up in circumstances that encouraged her into spending a lot of time reading and writing. Their father, Patrick, became the curator of the church of the small town of Haworth, in Yorkshire, and he was strict about silence in the house while he worked, so the children got used to spending many hours together in the same room not just reading but also writing their own poems and stories. The Brontë children were in a relatively unusual social situation: their father’s position meant the occupation of a very large house and a comfortable income during his lifetime, but next to...
